Purse.io, known for helping bitcoin users get significant discounts on Amazon products, recently teased a “secret” project known only as Tritium when they announced a $1M seed funding round. Today, while stopping far short of a full reveal, they have let slip a few details about the project.

Bitcoin e-commerce startup Purse has raised $1m in seed funding in a round led by investor Barry Silbert’s Digital Currency Group.

“We are very excited to build useful applications that are impossible with traditional payment systems,” said Andrew Lee, Purse.io CEO. “Our decentralized marketplace will enable anyone with a smartphone to buy or sell goods.”

It wasn’t just regular consumers who were able to benefit from the much-anticipated Amazon Prime Day. Purse.io, the escrow service that connects users with bitcoin to users with Amazon gift cards, saw a significant amount of growth leading up to the big day.

Purse.io, the peer-to-peer marketplace that allows users to exchange their Bitcoins for Amazon products and vice-versa, has partnered with ShapeShift in order to allow its users to use other crypto currencies aside from Bitcoins.

Purse.io puts this to the test by providing people the ability to exchange bitcoins for Amazon.com, Inc. products using credit cards, gift cards, and Amazon payments balances.

Purse.io, a startup that lets consumers buy Amazon items at a discount using bitcoin, has opened a brick-and-mortar store.
