UpCounsel, a three-year-old startup based in San Francisco, has been attempting to change that by offering lawyers a different way to work. The company has created a marketplace where businesses can go and connect with high-quality attorneys for specific tasks.

UpCounsel, a marketplace for legal services, has pulled in $10 million in new funding to provide small businesses with attorneys at a fraction of the cost of a big law firm.

UpCounsel connects individuals and businesses with hundreds of on-demand lawyers. “We’re saving our customers somewhere between 60% and 70% off a traditional legal bill,” says CEO Matt Faustman.

UpCounsel, an online marketplace connecting attorneys and small business owners, announced Tuesday it had expanded services to Illinois, the company's fifth market. 

Upcounsel, an on-demand marketplace that makes it easier and significantly more cost-effective for businesses to get high quality legal help, today announced that it will be officially expanding its services to Massachusetts with a major focus on Boston's business community where the company has been running its closed beta for several months.
